Pasture measuring equipment for effective feed budgeting is the key to meeting the needs of grazing livestock and optimising effective pasture use efficiency and quality.
The Manual rising platemeter is the first in the range. Low entry cost and economically priced, it requires meter readings to be converted into pasture cover values (usually back in the farm office). For each paddock measured, two or three counter readings must be manually written down. (Usually in a notebook carried by the user.)
Electronic Platemeter models EC09, EC10 and EC20 are easier to use, though these models are slightly more expensive. The instant readout (either on the platemeter in the case of the EC09 and EC10 or using the included Android app for the EC20) is also great for training users to assess pasture cover ‘by eye’. All the calculations are done for you, with the EC10 and the EC20 also able to store the data.
The main elements of the two meters are identical – it is only the counters that differ. They are quality, accurate and reliable rising plate pasture meters and we don’t recommend one meter over the other. In the end, it comes down to personal preference and budget.
